Galwegians u-12s will make their annual pilgrimage to London with a squad of 33 players and 24 adults to take part in the world-renowned London-Irish “Clearing-Out” Six Nations Mini Rugby Festival.
This is the 33rd time London Irish has hosted this event and it will by attended by 29 clubs from six countries, including England, Scotland, Wales, France and Germany. Ireland will be represented by Ballymena, Clontarf, Coleraine, De La Salle Palmerstown, Dolphin, Garryowen and Galwegians.
Participation in the annual two-day Sunbury Festival has become something of a rite of passage for the boys at Glenina, and the Galway club has a strong track record at the event, and is the only Irish club to have won both the cup and shield in the same year (2007).
Supported by Bon Secours Hospital, the tour party will be led by head coach Paul Bennett, who will be assisted by members of the coaching staff Martin Fitzpatrick, Tommy O'Malley, Evin McGovern, Pat Surlis, Graham Hopkins and Evin Cusack, and team manager Ann Cusack. Tour management duties are being shared between Maire Hornibrook, Pat Kelly and Debbie Joyce.
