Fri, May 19, 2017
By the time you read this Westport United could have joined Straide and Foxford United and Manulla at the top of the table on 16 points, or Castlebar Celtic could move just one point behind the two table toppers and just into third place over Westport United by a point. The two grand old clubs of Mayo soccer met in Celtic Park yesterday evening in one of the most eagerly anticipated clashes so far this season. Also in action last night were fifth placed Claremorris and a bottom of the table Ballina Town, a game Ballina really need to pick up some points in as they look to pull themselves away from the relegation battle.

Mayo will meet Sligo on Sunday week in Castlebar after the Yeats men survived their trip to the Big Apple defeating the home side by 1-21 to 1-13. Mayo Community Games is a very proud voluntary body which has made a huge contribution to the games since they were formed in 1973. Once you entered the Sports Ireland National Sports Campus in Dublin for the National Community Games May Festival it was very clear that Mayo was truly represented by the wonderful colour of flags and Mayo tracksuits everywhere. Mayo Community Games was involved in swimming, table tennis, futsal, marathon, mixed distance relay, gymnastics, quiz, and soccer. The Mayo participants' first visit to the campus yielded tremendous success with five sets of gold medals, three sets of silver, one set of bronze, and a set of fourth place medals.
