Tesco Mayo Stores collect meals for local families in need

Tesco stores in County Mayo, supported by the Lions Club, collected more than 4,280 worth of meals as part of the Tesco Christmas Food Appeal, it has been revealed. The appeal was one of the biggest of its kind in Mayo this year, with all food collected being distributed locally. Tesco topped-up the local Mayo donations by 30 per cent.

Castlebar roundabouts are deadly for pedestrians and shoppers — Chambers

Castlebar is not a pedestrian friendly town and something needs to be done about the town's roundabouts, according to local Fianna Fail area rep, Lisa Chambers. "I was shopping around Tesco in Castlebar during the week and trying to navigate the roundabout to get to Boots was a nightmare," said Ms Chambers. She contined: "I noticed a mother with a pram and actually stopped to observe how she could cross the roundabout and it was with great difficulty. She almost had to use the pram as a traffic stopper. The speed with which cars are travelling though this roundabout is much too fast and traffic calming measures are needed.

Deputy Calleary said the announcement that Bord Gáis Energy is to be sold to Centrica, which operates British Gas, will cause concern as prices have been increasing for consumers in the UK.
