Funding boost for Behy Hall

Plans to develop the community centre on the grounds of Behy National School in Ballina got a major funding boost with the announcement of an almost €340,000 LEADER grant for the project.

Fine Gael Deputy Michelle Mulherin welcomed the funding approved for Behy Community Hall Ltd. through the Mayo North East Leader Partnership company.

Castlebar man sent forward to circuit court

A Castlebar man was sent forward for trial to the next sitting of Castlebar Circuit Court sitting for criminal business on next Tuesday, October 14, to face three charges arising out of an incident in March 2013. Shane Naughton with an address at 1 Hazelgrove, Castlebar, was served with the book of evidence against him by Garda Margaret O’Connor before last Tuesday’s sitting of Castlebar District Court. He was charged with one count under section four of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, one count under section 15 of the Public Order Act, and one count under section 11 of the Firearms and Weapons Act, all arising out of an incident at the Old Railway Walk, Westport, on March 16 2013. He was remanded in custody by consent until next Tuesday’s circuit court sitting.
