Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony said yesterday (Thursday) that he had got conformation from the Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan, that people on group water schemes would also be able to benefit from the tax relief, announced during this week’s Budget, against their water charges.

The group are using the night as an opportunity to raise funds for an appeal to An Bord Pleanála against the granting of planning last week to three large scale wind farm projects in east Mayo.

The elected member make up of the six Strategic Policy Committees of Mayo County Council was confirmed at Monday’s October meeting of the local authority. All 30 councillors must serve on at least one of the committees. The chairs of the committees had been divvied out between the different political groupings at the council’s inaugural meeting in July. The position of chairperson had an allowance of €6,000 in 2013

A four person delegation from the elected members of Mayo County Council, supported by officials from the council, has been selected to engage with senior officials in the Department of Environment over the Mayo County Development Plan 2014 -2020. The four elected members are Fianna Fáil councillor Al McDonnell, Fine Gael councillor Gerry Coyle, Independent councillor Richard Finn, and Cathaoirleach of the council, Cllr Damien Ryan.
