Missing teen located

A teenager who had been missing from Ballinrobe since Monday morning has been found safe and well Gardai announced this afternoon. Gardai thanked the public for their help in the matter and said no further action was required.

Boil water notice lifted in Westport

Irish Water has lifted a boil water notice for Westport town today which was issued at the start of May after a number of cases of Cryptosporidiosis were reported in the area. A boil water notice had been issued for the whole town, which was partially lifted three weeks ago for the area of the town north of the railway line. But the announcement today will see the notice lifted for the whole town and allow the public in Westport to resume using their mains water supply as normal.Irish Water has said they have carried out modifications and improvements at the treatment plant, as well as on the water supply network adjacent to the plant. Following water quality testing the boil water notice has now been removed with immediate effect.

Irish Pride to enter receivership

Irish Pride which is one of the countries largest bakeries with a major operation in Ballinrobe has entered recievership. Declan Taite and Pearse Farrell of Duff & Phelps have been appointed as joint receivers of the company which has manufcaturing plants in Ballinrobe and in Wexoford.  The business will continue to trade as normal, while the recievers look to sell it as a going concern. The business was sold for an undisclosed sum in April 2014 by investment company One51 to WHW Bakeries, controlled by investors Garret and William Lloyd.

Six in court over Áras Attracta assaults

Six people were charged with assault in Swinford District Court, sitting in Ballina this moring arising out of incidents that occured at Áras Attracta care home in Swinford. The six were all staff members in the care home. The assaults are alleged to have taken place on dates between 6 and 17 November 2014.

Fianna Fáil selection convention this evening

The Fianna Fáil party will hold their selection convention for the next general election this evening. Despite local members of the party voting for three person ticket for the next election in March, party headquarters has decided a two candiate approach is the bst one to take and they have split the county into two along the old Mayo West and Mayo East constituency boundries.

35-year wait for water in Richmond goes on

The long running wait for a proper water scheme for the 82 households in Richmond, just outside Crossmolina, continues to rumble on. Fianna Fáil councillor Michael Loftus again raised the issue of the lack of a water scheme at Wednesday's meeting of the Ballina Municipal District, as to where it stands.

Lack of work on Leigue Cemetery worrying councillors

Independent Ballina councillor Gerry Ginty said this week that he fears that a reduction of €5,000 in a grant given to The Friends of Leigue, who maintain Leigue Cemetery in the town, has led to no maintenance works being carried out on the cemetery yet this year.

Council to sell lands to Applegreen

The elected members of the Ballina Municipal District this week agreed to sell to Applegreen a small parcel of land located beside its newly opened service station on the junction of the N5 and the R320 in Swinford. The plot of land, which measures 0.212 acres at Carrowbaun, has no development potential on its own, the members were told, and the only development value it could have would be to the owners of the service station.

New long term lease approved for Ballina childcare centre By Colm Gannon

A new long term lease of property in Bearndearg, Ballina, by Mayo County Council to Parkside Community Development Ltd, trading as Haven Community Childcare Centre, was agreed by the elected members of the Ballina Municipal District this week. The group has been operating the childcare centre for the past 10 years after being given an initial lease by Ballina Town Council, which was due to expire at the end of October this year.
