Pedestrian killed following collision in Breaffy

Gardaí in Castlebar are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the N60, Castlebar-Claremorris Road, on the Balla side of Breaffy Village. The fatal road collision occured at approximately 3am on Saturday morning.
A 49-year-old female pedestrian suffered fatal injuries when she was struck by a car. She was taken to Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar where she was later pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported. The scene is preserved and the road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place.

The late Frances McAndrew was laid to rest yesterday in Leigue Cemetery, Ballina, following her funeral Mass in St Patrick's Church in the town.
Mrs McAndrew, nee Dunleavy, of Westwinds, Bohernasup, Ballina, died in the Galway Clinic this day last week, following a short illness at the age of 70.

Ten new beds are to be opened at Ballina District Hospital at the start of next month.
That is according to Ballina based Dáil deputy Michelle Mulherin who said she received confirmation from the HSE that eight beds will be open by June 1 and a further two will open over the following week or so.
