Ballina man fled scene of accident because he panicked, court hears

A Ballina man who has a number of previous convictions and panicked after he was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after crashing into another car, refused to give a sample to the gardaí, Ballina District Court heard this week. The defendant was given a four year driving ban and a number of fines as a result.

Mayo County Council should increase its services — Flynn

In a discussion surrounding Mayo County Council’s corporate plan, which spans a five year period from 2010 to 2014, Fine Gael councillor Peter Flynn suggested that the council should increase its range of services, due to the scaling back of other government agencies, with Mayo County Council taking on these additional services so everything is dealt with “under one umbrella”.

I met, face to face, and spoke to young men who had been abducted as boys by the rebel army, which rampaged through every village in the area until two years ago.

The Archbishop of Tuam Dr Michael Neary launched “Guidelines for Pastoral Councils – Treoirlínte do Chomhairlí Tréadach” in the McWilliam Park Hotel Claremorris last week. The guidelines are published in both English and Irish and consist of a 16-page booklet outlining the purpose, vision and term of office of pastoral councils.
