There will be celebrations in Davitt College next week when the official opening of the long-awaited Joe Langan Sports Hall, at Davitt College, Castlebar - in honour of the late Joe Langan, finally takes place.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny will be on hand to oversee the official opening on Monday, December 12 and will also be present when the ribbon is cut on the new Phase 1 School Extension, which consists of three new specialist classrooms, a home economics Room, a woodwork/construction room and a design, communications and graphics room.

The sports fanatic has completed numerous marathons, pushed the wheels through countless races and inspired a multitude through his unyielding belief that anything is possible. The big man was always active, playing football with his native Burrishoole in his youth and later lining out across the water in England. When a car accident in 1981 left him disabled, it still could not take away his love of life and ambition to push back the boundaries time and time again.
