Ballina Town Council sees Local Government grant cut by 8.5 per cent for 2012

Ballina Town Council has seen its funding from central government through the Local Government Fund cut by €118,563 for 2012, a reduction of 8.5 per cent on the amount it received last year. When looked at on a five year basis the reduction in the funding from the Local Government Fund has been reduced by €520,754 since 2008. The total reduction in all state grants for Ballina in the past five years is expected to be down €632,222 this year.

Castlebar Pantomime presents Cinderella

Few pantomimes can instantly inspire images of rags to riches, sadness to happiness, lowly servant to the talk of the society ball and a prince finding his princess as the timeless pantomime fairy tale that is Cinderella. Previously performed by Castlebar Pantomime in 1951, 1960, 1987 and 1997 on the Castlebar Town Hall stage, 2012 sees this much loved classic being performed for the first time by the revised Castlebar Pantomime in the Theatre Royal, Castlebar from January 11 to 15. There are 61 years of pantomime tradition within Castlebar from 1951 to 2012 and a complete change of location for the home of Castlebar Pantomime, but this ultra modern 2012 production promises to hold true to this traditional fairy tale.

Septic tank public meetings to take place in Belmullet

Two public meetings to discuss the implications of the new legislation on septic tanks are being organised by Sinn Féin councillor Rose Conway-Walsh in the Belmullet Electoral Area. The first meeting will be held in the Broadhaven Bay Hotel, Belmullet, on Tuesday January 10 at 8pm and the second one will be held in Hotel Newport on Friday January 13 at 8pm.
