A Lithuanian man who pleaded guilty to having drugs for his own personal use and for sale was ordered to pay €500 to the St Vincent De Paul at Ballyhaunis District Court this week.

The newest fund-raising drive for Mayo GAA will be officially launched in An Sportlann, Castlebar, tomorrow evening, Saturday January 7 at 7pm. Cáirde Mhaigheo has been established as the single umbrella for all fund-raising activities by Mayo GAA and will aim to create sustainable fund-raising streams to help support the GAA in Mayo.

Ballina Town Council has seen its funding from central government through the Local Government Fund cut by €118,563 for 2012, a reduction of 8.5 per cent on the amount it received last year. When looked at on a five year basis the reduction in the funding from the Local Government Fund has been reduced by €520,754 since 2008. The total reduction in all state grants for Ballina in the past five years is expected to be down €632,222 this year.
