Two Ballyhaunis men pleaded guilty to theft by deception arising out of three fraudulent social welfare claims last year. Barry McCrudden of 29 Esker Pines, Ballyhaunis, and Patrick Waldron of Cave, Ballyhaunis, pleaded guilty to three offences each in court.

Community service assessment for Ballyhaunis man who had to be pepper sprayed

Judge Mary Devins ordered a community service assessment for a Ballyhaunis man who pleaded guilty to a number public order offences in Ballyhaunis District Court this week. Bernie McDonagh of 48 The Maples, Ballyhaunis was arrested by gardai on December 18 2011 at 1.20am following a disturbance at his mother-in-law’s house in Ballyhaunis.

Spectacular progress for children’s project

A researcher has hailed the “spectacular progress” made by a Castlebar-based children’s project and said its work was a model for other countries to follow. “What’s going on here in Mayo is of international significance,” said Professor Howard Stevenson of the University of Lincoln. He was speaking at the open day of MCI, an organisation for young people living with domestic abuse and family conflict in Ireland.

Taoiseach launches research on youth mental health

The report “Developing A Youth Mental Health and Well-Being Support Structure” was launched in Castlebar on Monday April last by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
