Walk in Westport to raise awareness against suicide, ‘a scourge in our community’

The inaugural Mayo Darkness into Light 5km walk—a walk to raise funds for Pieta House, and to increase awareness about suicide and self-harm intervention—will take place on the grounds of Westport House on Saturday May 12, commencing at 4am.

O’Mahony welcomes appointment of full-time Garda in Knock

Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony has confirmed that a full time garda is to be appointed to Knock village. Deputy O’Mahony has also confirmed that the Garda car will be replaced leading to a full time Garda presence in the community.

Reintroduction of community projects maximum grant welcomed

Fine Gael TD for Mayo, John O’Mahony, has welcomed the reintroduction of the maximum grant aid of €500,000 for community projects under the LEADER elements of the Rural Development Programme (RDP). The news was announced this week by Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan.
