Coláiste Sheosaimh mid-term and summer courses now enrolling

Bunaíodh Coláiste Sheosaimh i 1960 agus eagraítear Cúrsaí Gaeilge rathúla gach bliain ó shin. Coláiste Sheosaimh is situated about 40 miles west of Galway city. Since it was first established in 1960 the college has run very successful Irish courses from its two centres in Cárna (Junior College) and Cill Chiaráin (Senior College). The morning classes have been fully revised and restructured to put increased emphasis on oral work in line with the new school curriculum.
An intensive revision course will be held for Higher Level Irish Leaving Cert students during the February mid-term (Feb 8-12). The €350 fee includes full-board accommodation, transport and tuition on all aspects of the Leaving Cert exam – oral, aural and written.

The board of management of one primary school in Westport town has expressed its outrage at virtual exclusion from the current national survey of primary schools. Holy Trinity School is referred to by the unrecognisable title of “WESTPORT 2 NS, Newtown” causing confusion to parents completing the survey. Parents cannot even identify the school by “Newport Road” – instead of a road name, the address is given as “Newtown”.

There has been an increase in the number of reported faults on the eircom network over the last few days as a result of the recent stormy weather conditions. Lightning storms coupled with high winds has resulted in a lot of reported faults on the Mayo network. Nationally, there have been more than 4,500 reported faults on the network.

The managing director of Ireland West International Airport, Joe Gilmore this week told the Mayo Advertiser that the joint study to develop strategic growth options for the airport will be up to the best international standards. Mr Gilmore spoke to this newspaper the day after the board of the airport held a lengthy meeting with An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Minister for Transport, Leo Varadker, Minister of State for Tourism, Michael Ring, and the rest of the Government party’s Mayo Dáil delegation.

Local business people are calling on the local authorities to save town centres in Mayo from desertion by allowing for leniency when it comes to car parking. Recommendations for such changes to restrictive parking regimes were outlined this week in the Retail Grocery Dairy and Allied Trades Association (RGDATA) report entitled A Nightmare on Every Street. The RGDATA is seeking new guidelines to end the parking policy inconsistencies of local authorities and help combat the pull of shoppers to out of town retail centres with free parking.
