A 19-year-old man has been sent forward for trial to the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court on a murder charge, relating to the death of his mother Noreen Kelly (46), at the family home in Islandeady on March 9 2011.

The third ‘Dip in the Nip’ will take place on a beach in the northwest of Ireland on Saturday June 25. This innovative fundraiser was the brainchild of Sligo woman Máire Garvey, who came up with the idea of a small sponsored all-female skinny dip in 2009 in order to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society.

An 18-year-old woman from Castlebar was convicted of handling stolen property at Castlebar District Court this week after a laptop and camera, which were stolen from two schools, were discovered in her bedroom.
Gardaí, who were granted a search warrant, searched the McDonagh home — 56 An Srutháin, Castlebar — on June 4 2010 at 8.20am, following an investigation into a burglary in Westport. During their search they found nothing in relation to that incident; however, in the bedroom of Dolores McDonagh they found, hidden under a pile of clothes, an orange bag which contained a RM notebook and Sony Cyber camera.

The divisional traffic unit in Mayo has launched an initiative, which is part of a nationwide campaign, in order to deal with vehicles which have loud exhausts and excessively tinted windows. However, gardaí in Mayo are giving motorists in Mayo a grace period of two weeks, until June 15, to rectify these defects.

Mayo hair stylist Louise Jordan, from Ballina, was named as the IHF Irish Hairdresser of the Year 2011 at the National Hairdressing Championships and OMC European Championships in hair and beauty. Louise competed in such categories as fantasy, day style and full fashion and was awarded a Gold OMC medal in the Senior Day Style category and Senior Trend Cut category. She works in MOHH Salon in Galway.
