Shrule and District Vintage Club has announced its third annual rally in Castlehacket Estate, Belclare, Tuam, on Sunday June 12 2011. The previous two events were an enormous success with exhibitors from all over the west of Ireland displaying their classic and vintage cars, tractors, motor cycles, etc, and each event was attended by more than 4,000 people on the day.

Claremorris No Name disco

Celebrate the summer holidays and the finish of the exams on Friday June 17 in Club Blue, Claremorris, from 9.30pm to 12.30am. A great night is sure to be had and there will be spot prizes galore. All second year students going into third year in September 2011 are now more than welcome to attend. As usual this disco will be fully supervised by the adult committee.

A Ballyhaunis man who failed to dispose of a large quantity of household waste and old electrical appliances which had been piled up at the back of his house was fined €1,500 and ordered to pay €750 costs at Ballyhaunis District Court this week.

Judge adjourns assault case so gardaí can follow up on claim

Judge Mary Devins adjourned an assault case in Ballyhaunis this week so that gardaí can follow up on a claim made by the defendant during his evidence. Steve Issac with an address at The Old Convent, Ballyhaunis, was in court accused of assaulting Amar Satter at Abbey Street, Ballyhaunis, on December 4 2010. Satter had told the court that Issac had done some work for him in his shop on Abbey Street in the town. But when he had no more work, Issac began to harass him and text him. He claimed that on December 4 he saw Issac walking back and over in front of his shop and he texted him to tell him to leave him alone. He went on to say that he was outside his shop after 6pm in the evening when Issac came up to him and started abusing him, culminating in Issac grabbing him around his throat and pushing him against the wall.

Welcome for council lease of premises for Ballyhaunis youth café

The news that Mayo County Council had approved the lease of a premises to the family resource centre in Ballyhaunis for a youth café was warmly welcomed at a meeting of the Claremorris Electoral Area Committee this week. Senior executive officer for Mayo County Council Padraig Flanagan told the meeting that a lease had been agreed between the council and the family resource centre in the town for a property located on Upper Main Street, Ballyhaunis. Local Fine Gael councillor John Cribben welcomed the news, saying: “This is something that a lot of people have been working on in the town for a long time now. It is something that is badly needed in the town and will offer the youth of the whole area somewhere to come and socialise in a safe environment.” Cllr Richard Finn also welcomed the news and said: “I hope this is a major success and it is the type of facility we need in all our towns.”

Traffic plan reversal causes gridlock in chamber

The members of Ballina Town Council will have an item on the July agenda of the local authority to discuss the reversal of the traffic management plan in the town. The issue arose after Cllr Johnny O’Malley questioned how much money had been spent on the implementation of the second phase of the traffic plan when the members were considering the financial update on the councils spending up to the end of March this year.

€1,000 fine for woman who failed to pay correct PRSI

A business woman who ran a launderette in Ballyhaunis and failed to pay the correct PRSI for two of her employees was convicted and fined €1,000 at Ballyhaunis District Court this week. Pauline Turner O’Boyle with an address at Abbey Laundry, Abbey Street, Ballyhaunis, was not in court but was represented by her solicitor Cathy McDarby.
