Mulherin welcomes allocation of RAPID funding to Ballina

Fine Gael TD Michelle Mulherin has welcomed the allocation by Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan of €88,000 funding for Ballina under the RAPID programme. “This is a cause I have been relentlessly pursuing since my election to Dáil Éireann last year,” Dep Mulherin said yesterday. “I am delighted that Ballina is finally getting some funding for projects under the RAPID programme. This money will be used for vital local initiatives and the process will now be undertaken in conjunction with Pobail to decide which projects will be given priority for funding.”

Funding secured for women in business programme

Mayo Intercultural Action has secured further funding to continue its GROW: Women In Business Programme. The GROW programme - Growing Real Opportunities for Women is an EU funded programme run by Mayo Intercultural Action, providing supports for women to set up their own businesses. Over the past two years, women from throughout Mayo have availed of training, mentoring, and advice to support them to develop successful enterprises. Following on the success of this innovative programme to date, MIA has been allocated a further €33,152 to continue the programme until November 2012 and recruitment will now begin for this new phase of GROW.

Four Mayo schools to receive permanent buildings — O’Mahony

The town of Swinford and further afield in the county were this week trying to come to terms with the tragic news that popular 23-year-old soccer player Gary Price was drowned in a tragic accident in Loas in South East Asia. Price was in Laos with two friends on holiday, having lived in Australia for the previous year, when he drowned in the tragic accident.

Man who grabbed garda given chance

A man in his twenties who grabbed a garda by his neck and then threw punches at him was given the benefit of the Probation Act at this week’s Ballina District Court as Judge Mary Devins said that the defendant has made “very, very, genuine attempts to mend his ways”.
