Brothers in court after street brawl

Two brothers were before Ballina District Court on Tuesday following an incident outside a bar in Ballina.

On August 28 2011, at 2.20am, gardaí on patrol on Market Square, Ballina, observed a row in progress, where one person was on the ground and a crowd was gathered around.

Alan Browne (29 ), 45 Abbey Street, Ballina, was observed to aim a kick towards the head of the person on the ground, however Browne missed. Gardaí tried to restrain him, however his brother Dean Browne (23 ), 43 St Patrick’s Estate, Ballina, got involved and tried to prevent the arrest. The men were not arrested as the gardaí were trying to deal with a number of individuals.

The court heard that the incident kicked off between a visiting football team who were drinking in a pub and the fight spilled onto the street where Alan Browne alleged that he was punched in the shoulder and fell down. He admitted that he then attempted to kick the person on the ground.

Judge Mary Devins adjourned the case for sentencing to May 28 2013.
