Poetry Tree tour of Mayo

To celebrate All Ireland Poetry Day which happened in October, Mayo County Council’s arts office, library service, and Mayo Artsquad put out a call for submissions of inspiring poetry to dress a poetry tree designed by Artsquad artist Louisa Sloan. There was a great response to the call for poetry with some 160 submissions received to date. Poetry was received from primary and secondary school students, Active Retirement Associations, care settings, and writers groups.

One workplace death in Mayo in 2012

Official figures released yesterday (Thursday, January 3) by the Health and Safety Authority show that there was a 13 per cent reduction in the number of workplace deaths during 2012. There were 47 people killed in workplace accidents last year compared to 54 in 2011 with just one occurring in County Mayo.
