Logboy scheme takeover welcomed

The official takeover of the Logboy group water scheme was welcomed by the members of the Claremorris Electoral Area Committee this week. Ballyhaunis based Fine Gael councillor John Cribben told the meeting, “This scheme has been in operation since 1975 and for the whole time until now, it has been run very well by those in charge of it. I would like to thank all the volunteers who put in their time and effort through the years on it.”

Calls made for car park at Lisloughrey

Fianna Fáil councillor Damien Ryan called for the Mayo County Council to look into the possibility of constructing car parking facilities at Lisloughrey Pier. Cllr Ryan said, “This would be a great opportunity to develop proper parking facilities at the pier. Currently there is no proper parking there and in conjunction with the local residents and Corrib navigation, it's something that should be looked into.” Fine Gael councillor Patsy O'Brien said he agreed with Cllr Ryan, but emphasised that consultation with local residents would be a key to such a plan.

O'Brien calls for reuse of old lights in other parts of Shrule

Fine Gael councillor Patsy O'Brien at this week’s meeting praised the work being done on the Shrule village enhancment scheme at present. But he asked that the council would resuse some of the lighting in the village that may be replaced as part of the works, pointing out that the Dalgan Road towards the football pitch could do with some extra lighting. Director of services for Mayo County Council, Seamus Granahan, said that he would have the matter examined.
