Man to appear in court today over Collins murder

A 48-year-old man from Carrowmore-Lacken will appear before Harristown District Court today (Friday ) in relation to the murder of Sandra Collins.

Martin Earley, Banagher, Carrowmore- Lacken, appeared before a special sitting of Ballina District Court on Friday December 28 after he was charged with the murder of Sandra Collins.

Ms Collins (29 ) disappeared in Killala on December 4, 2000. She was last seen at a local takeaway. A few days after she had gone missing, Ms Collins's fleece jacket was found on the pier at Killala but gardaí firmly discounted the possibility that she had taken her own life.

Her disappearance sparked a massive investigation with several public appeals for help. Last year a poster appeal in the form of a personal message was launched as part of a fresh campaign.

Earley was home for Christmas from the UK when he was arrested last week.

Judge Patrick Durcan remanded him in custody to appear before the district court today at 10.30am.
