Mayo retailer brings fight for fair parking to Leinster House

On Tuesday second generation Ballinrobe retailer Rob Murphy presented to the Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, addressing the challenges town centres are facing due to restrictive parking regimes. Mr Murphy of Murphy’s Centra, Ballinrobe, spoke as part of a delegation from RGDATA, the representative association for independent family grocers.

Kenny and Ring represent Ireland abroad this weekend

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister of State Michael Ring will be among the 19 Government emissaries representing the country abroad during the upcoming St Patrick’s Day celebrations. The Taoiseach will be travelling to the United States where he will have the traditional St Patrick’s Day meeting with President Barack Obama, he will also be meeting Vice President Joe Biden while in Washington DC, where he will also make a keynote address at George Washington University where he will receive the university’s Making Democracy Work Award.

Before his trip to Washington the Taoiseach will attend the St Patrick’s Day Parade and will hold meetings with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and visit the Rockway area which was devastated by Hurricane Sandy. Kenny will also head to the US west coast where he will stop off in both Seattle and Los Angeles, where he will meet with a series of current and potential corporate investors in Ireland. Minister of State with responsibility for Sport and Tourism, Dep Michael Ring, is heading off to Italy to represent the country and while he is there, he will be attending the conclusion of Ireland’s Six Nations campaign, against the Italians in Rome. Mayo native and Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte will also be heading to the United States where he will visit both New York and Pittsburgh.

Ring is only Mayo TD with no investment properties or other ‘interests’

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Dep Michael Ring has no interests recorded on the Register of Members Interests of members of Dáil Éireann for the year 2012. The annual register of interests was released at the end of last month and lists the interests in, among other things, property and shares that the members of the Oireachtas have.

Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, listed five land interests, including his family home, his constituency office with overhead apartment, his Dublin apartment which he resides in when in Dublin, and some farmland. The Taoiseach has received a number of memberships in golf clubs in the country listed against gifts. He has also listed a print presented to him by President Barrack Obama, which was valued at €1,500 and which has been given to the State. The Taoiseach has the print on display in the Department of the Taoiseach at present according to the register.

Claremorris town centre rejuvenation plan

A public meeting about the Claremorris town centre rejuventaion plan will be held in the Dalton Inn, Claremorris, on Monday March 25 at 7pm.

This meeting is part of a town centre plan being undertaken by Claremorris Chamber of Commerce and Mayo County Council. The purpose of the meeting is to get input from members of the public into what they would like to see happening in the town centre in terms of the retail experience; parking and transport; recreational facilities such as restaurants, accommodation, open spaces, and parks; festivals, events and entertainment for the town; and to discuss other issues that the public feel are important in relation to the town centre.
