Aware depression support groups meet every week in three areas in the county — Ballina, Ballinrobe, and Castlebar. The support groups offer a safe and confidential environment for those who experience depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety to come together to share coping skills and provide support and encouragement to one another. The support groups are free and confidential.

Christmas has arrived with a good news story for two towns in Mayo with the news this week that a third round of funding for the regeneration of Castlebar and Ballina has been processed, with Castlebar receiving €444,0000 and Ballina receiving €300,000 towards enhancing both towns.

A new purpose built occupational therapy department was officially opened at Mayo General Hospital on Monday last - just in time for Christmas. The occupational therapy department at Mayo General Hospital relocated to the new purpose-built area to enhance the service and care provided to patients and clients attending the OT clinic. The OT Department is now situated on the second floor of the hospital near the medical wards.

The overall winner in the ‘Fuinneog na Nollag 2011 – Shop Window Competition’ which was part of the Croí na Nollag Castlebar Shopping Festival was The Mood Gallery, situated on Main Street, followed by Sanzio on Hopkins Road in second place, with a tie in third place between The Upper Crust of Bridge Street and Mandel's Art Shop of Main Street.

The Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival has received €2,800 in funding from the Arts Council in round one of the Small Festivals Scheme for 2012.
Sixty–six small festivals and events throughout the country have received Arts Council funding. A total of €401,650 has been awarded to 66 festivals and events throughout the country from 122 applications received.
