IWAK embarks on €15m Investment phase of terminal enhancements and runway upgrade works

Work has commenced on a €15 million facilities investment plan aimed at transforming the Airport over the next three years. The investment strategy will see over €15m invested in new passenger facilities, terminal upgrades and infrastructural works across the airport facility and runway.

Sinn Féin Councillor, Thérèse Ruane has announced that she will not be contesting the next local elections and is to step down as a Mayo County Councillor at the end of this year. Ruane was first elected to Castlebar Town Council in 2009 having be co-opted on to the council to replace Noel Campbell, she subsequently won that seat in the next Town Council elections and in 2014 was elected a member of Mayo County Council in the Castlebar Municipal District getting 1,375 first preference votes and taking the third seat in the district. She was also part of two person Sinn Fein ticket in the 2011 general election where she was given 2,142 first preference votes.

Mayo Sports Partnership this week launched its new Strategy and Action Plan 2017-2021, the launch took place in Ballinrobe Golf Club and was carried out by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, and Caitheoirleach of Mayo County Council Cllr Richard Finn. Following the successful delivery of its previous two plans 2006 – 2010 and 2010 – 2014 the partnership plans to further deliver on its commitment to the people of Mayo, greater participation in recreational sport by all.

The campaign to establish a River Moy Trust is to gain momentum with the hosting of an information evening in Ballina’s Mount Falcon Hotel on Sunday, November 29, from 7pm to 9pm. The initiative is being co-ordinated by the River Moy Catchment Association, a voluntary group that represents stakeholders committed to improving the ecology, fisheries, and wildlife of all waterways in the Moy catchment.

Last Monday saw two new officials take up their positions with Mayo County Council as part of its senior management team, following a recent recruitment campaign, carried out by the Public Appointment Service, two vacancies for the post of director of services have been filled. The posts had been vacant since the retirement of Joe Loftus in last May and move of Paddy Mahon to take over as chief executive of Longford County Council last year.
