Top tips for making it into a bikini

While we may not be rushing to get into bikinis in Ireland at the moment, hope springs eternal and many of us will have to brave it on holiday abroad! To help make the process a bit less painful, Nutritionist Nuala Collins offers us some healthy and tasty food tips:

Start every meal with a glass of water. Often we think we are hungry when in fact we are only thirsty.

2,000 calories a day is the average amount needed by an adult—if your intake is way above this, aim to reduce it by 500 calories a day by making small changes to your food intake.

Get more active: start walking further and at a quicker pace and use your lunchtime to walk for ten or 15 minutes.

Summer days are salad days: enjoy a tuna or salmon salad and get your supply of omega 3 as well as antioxidants in one tasty but low calorie salad. Omega 3 has been proven to help maintain heart health as well as eyes, efficient working of the brain and antioxidants help our bodies fight disease.

Replace sandwiches sometimes with pitta bread or wraps. Make a big saving on calories by not using butter or mayonnaise; finish every meal with fresh fruit and go easy on wine and beer as every glass of wine or beer will add about 110 calories.
