Judge adjourns court amidst chaotic scences

A District Court judge adjourned a sitting in Castlebar on Wednesday amid chaotic scenes after members of the group Integrity Ireland tried to place the presiding Judge Kevin Kilrane under 'citizen's arrest'.

Two members of the group, Stephen Manning and Colm Granahan, were in court taking civil summons against Garda Seargent Peter Hanley and County Registrar Fintan Murphy on foot on incidents that occured at a March sitting of the County Registrar's Court. Judge Kilrane threw out Mr Manning's application for failing to put Sgt Hanley on notice to appear, and in relation to Mr Granahan's case he adjourned it because there was High Court notice in relation to it. Judge Kilrane adjourned the court after continued shouting from supporters of the Inegrity Ireland group. All matters on the courts list for the day were adjourned to a sitting on September 16.
