Towns will lose joint policing committees

Castlebar, Westport and Ballina are to lose their joint policing committees (JPCs ) when the town councils are abolished in May.

The JPCs are made-up of local gardaí, community representatives, local authority and elected representatives.

They are an opportunity for local authorities and communities to meet with gardaí on crime and policing issues.

Speaking at a meeting of Castlebar JPC yesterday (Monday ) Sergeant Patrick Conway, who works on JPCS at a national level, said the three town JPCs will be rolled into a county-wide JPC.
