Portwest expects to create fifty new jobs out of Gulf deal

The recent trade mission to the Gulf states of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton saw good news for Mayo with the announcement of a deal involving Westport based Portwest. The company which specialises in the design and manufacture of high performance work wear has recently established a distribution centre in the UAE, where it services the Middle East and African markets. This new deal is expected to create up to 50 new jobs in the company headquarters in Westport.

The company already has distribution bases in Ireland, the UK, Poland, and the USA, along with manufacturing facilities in the Far East, and this new deal will see the Mayo based company expand its horizons even further into the Middle East and the developing world.

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny said of the development: “It’s great to see a Mayo based company like Portwest succeeding on a global level. This shows that indigenous Mayo firms can compete and thrive internationally. It also brings benefits in the form of job creation. Creating jobs is this Government’s number one priority. As well as driving foreign direct investment into the country, we are also placing a huge emphasis on growing the indigenous sector which will match the level of success of big international companies that have set up in Ireland.”
