Irish needed for construction growth in Australia

Cara International has been inundated with inquiries from people looking to leave the country in search of work.

Caroline, who spoke on Midwest Radio this week, says that there are many people looking at Australia as an option.

With our economy in recession and predictions of 7.5 per cent unemployment before the year is out, it looks like we are facing considerable difficulties right now. The forecast for the re-emergence of net outward migration is possibly the most vivid illustration of this and may give rise to comparisons with the 1980s.

Caroline, who has accumulated over eight years’ experience in the recruitment sector, knows only too well that employers value international experience and most often prefer to hire people who show the initiative and confidence to take on challenges outside their comfort zone.

Irish workers have an added advantage, being English speaking. They are loved in many countries but in particular the USA and Australia.

Cara International has a number of options available for people in various countries but the skilled migration visa is proving to be one of the most popular.

This visa is for people who have a skill in a trade or profession that is on the skilled occupation list (SOL ) or the Migrant Occupation in Demand list (MODL ). There are many professions that are accepted here. The Australian economy is doing very well and there is a high demand for skills, particularly in the construction sector.

Cathal Hayes from Ballintubber is a qualified carpenter. Cathal has just completed his first phase of getting his skills assessed for Australia through Cara International’s migrant specialists.

Cathal said: “It’s a great opportunity for me to go to Australia on a visa for up to five years. The process is fairly complex and it was great to have the agency there to make sure it all went through properly. It’s also an expensive programme but Cara International is very competitively priced compared to other agencies and they were local. I now have the first part over. Now I apply for the visa, which requires medicals, etc., and soon I’ll be off to the sun.”

The skilled migration programme is for people who are not sponsored by an employer and who have skills in particular occupations required in Australia. Applicants must be over 18 and under 45 years of age, with good English language ability, and recent skilled work experience or a recently completed eligible Australian qualification. Applicants must have skills and qualifications for an occupation listed on the Australia's Skilled Occupation List (SOL ).
