Eventual Horizons exhibition at Ballina Arts Centre

Ballina Arts Centre eclectic Visual Arts 2011 programme continues throughout the month of March with Eventual Horizons, an exhibition by Alan Cunnane, Urszula Oska, and Rie Oshinomi. An investigation of myths surrounding differences and similarities underlies the philosophy of Alan Cunnane's work. In this exhibition, he is joined by Urszula Oska and Rie Oshinomi, for an exploration of these themes. Using photography, architecture, music, film, and art as the framework, they undertake a critical analysis of the design process leading to an investigation of the process as a whole, tempered with concern for ‘the scarcity of newness’. Rie Oshinomi analyses the perception of colour through her landscape and portrait photography; Cunnane embraces different design disciplines alternating between embracing technology and at times rejecting the latest fashion/technology in what he describes as ‘a process of retro-grouch-ness’; while Urszula Oska approaches an exploration of ideas through drawings and photography and the meaningful experiences and interactions with art. Free admission. All are welcome to attend, the exhibition runs until April 2.

Comedy double bill in Castlebar

TooDog Theatre presents a comedy double-bill of one-act plays, Bardot Bites and Lucy Bastible, at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday March 24 at 8pm. In the light-hearted comedy Bardot Bites, we meet 45-year-old Bid who has led a sheltered life looking after her ailing mother. When her mother dies Bid is catapulted into the world of work, with a job on the cheese counter in the local deli where she learns the ways of cheese and men, and succeeds in teaching her sister a long overdue lesson. Lucy Bastible finds a privileged woman, the doyenne of her social set, whose world is rocked to its foundations when her husband Jeremy strays. In this darkly comic one act play, Lucy gives us a glimpse into her crumbling world and psyche as she seeks vengeance. Both plays are written and performed by Denise Quinn, directed by Mary Curtin. Go and enjoy an evening of fresh theatrical pleasure.
