Westport United came from one down away to Claremorris last weekend to pick up their sixth win on the bounce in the Super League and maintain their place at the top of the table.
The south Mayo men took the lead 53 minutes in, through a brilliant Rokas Mikuckis strike - with the Claremorris man taking the ball on the half volley from distance and driving it over Gary Cunningham in the Westport goal.
The table toppers pulled themselves level five minutes later when Phil Keegan headed home at the near post from a corner and the United front man turned provider for Mikey O'Brien just before the 65 minute mark, with Dave Cameron finding Keegan before he turned it back into the path of O'Brien. United are not in action this weekend, but will be back on the park on Thursday next when a full round of Super League fixtures are down for decision when they will travel to Carramore to take on Manulla.
Second placed Ballyglass picked up their fifth win from seven last weekend with a 2-0 win over Super League new boys, Balllyhaunis Town in Keaveny Park. Tom Connolly's side bagged the points thanks to first half goals from their ace marksman JP O'Gorman and a Rian O'Connor goal just before the break. This weekend they will take on Claremorris at home on Sunday morning as they look to keep pace with Westport United at the top of the table.
Manulla who are building up to a Connacht Cup final in a few weeks made it four wins from five against Snugboro United in Conway Park last Sunday. Andrew Shally grabbed the first two goals for Danny O'Leary's men before Gary McHale and Shea Benson rounded it off for the Carramore outfit. Manulla have this weekend off before they take on Westport United at home on Thursday week.
Last year's champions, Ballina Town, put half-a-dozen past Ballyheane in Belleek, with Dylan Edwards bagging five goals for Mick Duffy's men and Duane Helly rounding off the scoring for the champions in north Mayo. Ballina Town are due to make the short trip to Green Road to take on Straide and Foxford United on Sunday morning, while Ballyheane will host Sungboro United on Sunday morning - with both games down to kick off at 11am.
Castlebar Celtic picked up three points after Straide and Foxford United conceded their meeting with the Hoops, to move them to four wins from four games and onto 12 points.
Killala go for provincial glory
On Sunday afternoon in Solar 21 Park Milebush, Killala are looking to pick up some provincial silverware when they take on Galway outfit, Knocknacara, in the TP Brenna Connacht Shield Final. Killala warmed up for the game with a 5-0 win over Ballyglass in League Two that saw them move to the top of the table, thanks to goals from Finn Lacey, Kyle McLoughlin, Rory Gallagher and Michael O'Hora brace.
