Spring Leagues swinging into action around the clubs

There was plenty of action happening across the golf clubs of Mayo last weekend.

Balla

Jimmy Sheridan was the winner of the gents' stableford competition last weekend with a score of 39pts, second place went to PJ Brett two points further back and third place was claimed by Lorcan Cribben. The ladies' stableford was won by Carmel Henry who scored 36pts, she finished two points in front of Mary B Prendergast and Julie Loftus in third place. The midweek scramble was won by the trio of Phyllis Loftus, Mary B Prendergast and John Niland. With three weeks remaining in the Winter/Spring League, the following teams are in the lead: 1st: Danny Lyons, Carmel Henry and Derek Reilly with 418 points; 2nd: Padraic Cresham, Kitty O’Connor and Michael Neary with 415 points; 3rd: John Parsons, Aine MhicSuibhne and Bernie O’Connor with 411 points; 4th: Ronan Mahon, Pat Mohan and Pauline O’Connor with 402 points. An open three-ball scramble will be held over St Patrick's Weekend – from Thursday, March 14 to Monday, March 18 inclusive. The Captains Drive In will take place on Sunday, March 24.

Ballyhaunis

Maria Coyne was the winner of the ladies' competition last weekend in Ballyhaunis with a score of 37pts, second place went to Laurena Freeley two points behind Coyne and third place went to Deirdre Regan who scored 34pts. The gents' competition was won by John P Kelly with a score of 43pts, second place was claimed by David Murphy who came home two points behind Kelly and third place went to Kieran Dyer who scored 40pts.

Castlebar

The ladies' 12 hole stableford competition was won by Breda Gilvarry with a score of 26pts, Dolores Towey came home in second place with Maureen Collins in third place. Fourth place went to Mary McHale - while the nearest to pin win was claimed by Anne Wiseman. The midweek ladies' stableford was won by Ina Hennelly who scored 25pts and second place went to Mary Rose McNulty.

Mulranny

The Mulranny Park Hotel Winter League Final tees off on Sunday at 10am sharp with a shotgun start. Players involved should sign in not later than 9.30am. The format is fourball betterball with combined cards (11 teams of 4 competing ) plus bonus points (if applicable ) determining the final placings. The leading qualifiers will be paired opposite each other with the clash of top qualifiers. Enda Lonergan was the winner of the most recent open competition with 40pts. Anne Feeney, made the trip from Castlerea, to claim the second prize on 38pts, with Lorcan Feeney in third place with 37pts. The Open Weekends continue from Wednesday next through to Saturday. Please note the change this week as the course is not available on Sunday. The Opens will conclude over St Patrick’s weekend. All golfers are asked to support Captains Bernie Masterson and Geraldine Mulloy for their Drive In on Sunday week March 10, followed by a nine-hole scramble. Please list your name in the clubhouse.

Swinford

The 18 hole stableford competition was won by Mark McDonnell with a score of 36pts last weekend. The Spring League starts this Sunday, March 3 and will run for four weeks - entries can be made via the clubhouse notice board or the WhatsApp system.
