Moate beaten in All Ireland junior semi-final

John Mitchels 1-9

Moate All Whites 1-6

Moate All Whites suffered a heartbreaking All Ireland junior club football semi-final defeat at Pairc Tailteann on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool side John Mitchels shaded a tight battle with Kieran Lynam’s opportunistic 41st-minute goal edging them 1-4 to 0-4 ahead.

The Westmeath and Leinster champions came thundering back as substitute Cian Bradley grabbed a goal to trim the deficit, but John Mitchels survived. Moate All Whites reduced the gap to two points in the closing stages, but not even the dismissal of Lynam could disturb Mitchels. Replacement Kevin Kane rifled over a late score to seal John Mitchels’ victory as Moate All Whites were denied an appearance in the Croke Park decider.
