An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has suggested that the final increase of excise duty on petrol and diesel will not go ahead.
At the start of this month, petrol excise rates increased by seven cent per litre while diesel prices rose by five cent.

Some 1,776 new electric vehicles were registered in August, compared to 1,484 in August 2022 (+19.7 per cent), according to the latest new vehicle registrations statistics released ty the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.
So far this year, 20,218 new electric cars have been registered in comparison to 12,659 (+59.7 per cent) on the same period 2022.
