Burglaries highlight need for home security

Gardai are urging house owners to ensure their homes are adequately secured following a spate of house burglaries across the county last Sunday.

Gardai in Mullingar believe three break-ins, which occurred in Raharney, Killucan, and Milltownpass between Sunday morning and evening last weekend, may be connected, and are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

On Sunday between 10am and 7pm, a house in Raharney was entered through an open window at the rear and a sum of money taken.

Between the hours of 10.30am and 7.30pm on the same day, the back window of a house in Killucan was forced open and entry gained into the house.

Meanwhile in Milltownpass, a house was entered when a rear window was forced open sometime between 12 noon and 8pm. Nothing was taken from this house or the one in Killucan.

Sgt Kieran Williams of Mullingar Gardai is appealing to householders to ensure that when their home is left vacant, all windows are secured, valuables are left out of sight, and outside lights are left on, particularly at the rear.

Meanwhile a parish community centre in Bishopsgate Street, Mullingar was broken into between 5pm and 7.30am last Friday, Saturday, December 5 and 6. Although the premises was ransacked, nothing was taken.

Anyone with any information on any of these incidents is asked to contact Mullingar Garda station at (044 ) 9348915.
