New craft organisation for Westmeath

Inspired by the Year of Craft 2011, a year-long celebration of craft in Ireland (http://www.craftinireland.com ), a group of about 20 Westmeath-based crafters has come together under the ‘Made in Westmeath’ banner.

Made in Westmeath, which plans an official launch in April, is now putting out a call for makers of original, hand-crafted products who would like to come onboard.

The aim of the group is to promote crafts made in Westmeath and to build a brand that is recognised locally, nationally, and internationally and is synonymous with quality, hand-made products reflecting the versatily and talent of Westmeath-based crafters.

Those attached to Made in Westmeath will be able to display their work on a dedicated website, participate in craft-related events and promotions, and brand their work with a unique logo.

Anyone with an interest in crafts should also keep an eye open for upcoming displays of Westmeath crafts in civic offices, in Belvedere House and in other venues around the county.
