Funeral held following farm death

The funeral has taken place of Stephen Gannon, the Roscommon farmer whose life was claimed in a farming accident earlier this week.

Mr Gannon was buried at St John’s Church, Lecarrow following a funeral Mass yesterday [Thursday]. He is survived by his brothers Joe, Padraig, Sean, and Anthony, and sister Geraldine, and is predeceased by brothers Michael and Oliver.

The 65-year-old died after a silo containing animal feed overturned and fell on him as he was feeding cattle at Carna East, Kiltoom on Monday evening.

He died at the scene, and his body was later removed to University College Hospital in Galway, where a postmortem examination was carried out on Tuesday.

Two separate investigations have been launched into the circumstances surrounding the accident, by the Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority.
