AIT to hold information session about sports arena

An information session about AIT's new indoor sporting arena will be held on Tuesday December 7. The briefing will take place in the Earl of Rosse Lecture Theatre on the Main Campus at 7pm and is open to members of the public.

The new facility will include an IAAF-standard six-lane indoor athletics track, two court sports hall on international futsal and basketball courts, an elite squad gym, performance laboratory, aerobics studio, fitness suite, physical therapy suites, as well as café facilities. The athletics track and sports hall will both have 1,500-spectator capacity.

AIT's president, Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, said that, “AIT and the Midlands are rapidly developing a reputation as being an ideal hub for national and international sporting events. These new facilities will add considerably to the attractiveness of the region.

“The availability of the facilities will be a major factor in helping to attract and retain students in the third level environment, while providing the opportunity for positive and healthy activity outside of the classroom,” he added.
