Fight Like Apes in Mullingar

Fresh from a stint supporting The Tings Tings in London this weekend, Fight Like Apes return to The Stables tonight, Friday October 17.

Hailing from Dublin, and weighing in at over 600 pounds, Fight Like Apes combine the synth with the sword in a heroic combination of loutish vocals, brutal bass, and digital distortion. Formed in 2006 with the simple intention of scaring audiences with “poppy songs played so obnoxiously that everybody leaves”, Fight Like Apes are MayKay on vocals and keyboards, Pockets on keyboards and backing vocals, Tom on bass and backing vocals, and Adrian on drums.

Failing to make audiences leave, the band has instead gained a loyal, stalker-style following. FLA released two EPs last year on independent label FIFA Records. The first - ‘How Am I Supposed To Kill You If You Have All The Guns’ - spawned the track ‘Jake Summers’ (a fan letter to the dreamboat hero of 90s teen-drama California Dreams ), which was recently released as a blue vinyl 7”.

The second EP - ‘David Carradine Is A Bounty Hunter Whose Robotic Arm Hates Your Crotch’, consolidated their position as the most exciting new band in Ireland. Sell-out performances across Ireland and the UK followed, taking in Glastonbury, T in the Park, Oxegen, Indie-pendence, and Castlepalooza.

The group moved to Seattle in spring this year to record their debut album with renowned producer John Goodmanson. The album, Fight Like Apes and the Mystery of the Global Medallion, was released in September on new Irish independent Model Citizen.
