The Rivers: saviours of UK rock

"High-octane, chirpy, choppy guitar music with big fat choruses, infectious brio and pizzazz" - The Sunday Times

Sound good? Then you need to catch The Rivers doing what they do best in Danny Byrne’s, Mullingar this weekend. Formed as a gang in school, Brighton’s The Rivers are seen by many as the saviour of UK rock ‘n’ roll. Refusing to compromise in the face of the nation’s current penchant for bubblegum guitar pop, they’ve earned their stripes the hard way.

Following 160 shows and two years of solid touring the length and breadth of the UK and sleeping on fans’ floors - which has seen them support everyone from The Enemy and Maximo Park to dozens of dates with The Kooks - it’s hard to believe that Brighton’s The Rivers have found time to rack up an astonishing 73 songs towards their debut album.

But in between self-releasing their own singles (funded by selling demos for sync to EA Sports games ), the band has been demo-ing and writing incessantly on the road.

‘Love or Whatever’, to be released on November 3, is the singalong anthem to the summer that never was. The single has stuck in the minds of all who’ve heard it since its live birth on this spring’s Kooks tour

Before a forthcoming national UK tour in November, The Rivers are to showcase more new songs at three Irish shows this weekend - their first return since the March debut at Dublin’s Tripod and subsequent Phantom FM, Independent, and Hot Press slots.

As well as two shows supporting The Blizzards at Dublin Academy this Saturday and Sunday, The Rivers play their own show at Danny Byrnes, Mullingar this evening, Friday October 10.

If you’re not one of the lucky ones who already has your ticket for the Dublin show, don’t miss your chance to catch one of the UK’s finest bands in Danny Byrne’s this evening.
