The Criminal Assets Bureau recently seized a number of electric and classic vehicles, as part of a search operation across four counties.

This latest operation targeted an East European organised crime group involved in the laundering of the proceeds of crime through the second hand car trade. This is why I’m telling you about it - second-hand buyers beware!

Gardaí said this crime group is also involved in the supply of vehicles to Irish organised crime groups throughout the country.

In this operation, CAB seized two new BMW iX cars, a Tesla, two Classic vehicles, including a Mitsuoka Le-Seyde (pictured below ) and an MP Lafer, as well as €15,000 in cash and high value watches.

The operation involved over 80 personnel searching 15 search sites across counties, Kildare, Waterford, Laois and Dublin

This latest operation follows from CAB search operations conducted in September and October 2021, during the course of which it seized 18 high value vehicles including Audi Q7s, BMW X5s, Range Rovers, a Jaguar I-Pace and a Tesla.

Other operations, mainly aginst the illegal drug trade have also seen a large number of cars seized.
