Athlone Food Circle is the new food network aiming to highlight the excellent food and drink offering in the wider Athlone area.
It is currently inviting members to join the network which has funding under CEDRA (Commission for the Economic Development of Rural Areas ) for a programme of marketing and PR activities until the end of the year. It is an exceptional opportunity for local food businesses and the first intake of membership will close on September 30.
“This is a very exciting time to be involved in the food and drink sector in Athlone. We are inviting members from a broad spectrum - producers and markets, restaurants, gastro pubs, cafés, hotels and tours or activities with a food connection. By working together as a group we can achieve much more than by marketing as individuals,” chairperson, Deirdre Adamson (Glasson Lakehouse ), commented.
Earlier in the year a series of five workshops gave people in every sector of the food industry a chance to express their views. From this a compelling food story for Athlone has been developed which will form part of the basis for promotional activity. Athlone Food Circle will work to raise the profile of food and drink in the area, offer specific training to members and generate media coverage.
“Athlone Chamber of Commerce secured funding on behalf of the new Athlone Food Circle. We are delighted to see the progress made so far and look forward to seeing the impact the network has on the food and drink sector. We are looking forward to working with and supporting the new committee,” Gerry McInerney, CEO, Athlone Chamber of Commerce, added.
This exciting new initiative to promote Athlone food was instigated by Athlone Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Destination Athlone. Anyone interested in joining the Athlone Food Circle should email [email protected].
