New public lighting installed within Hillcourt estate

Athlone Town Mayor, Cllr Aengus O’Rourke, has confirmed the installation of new public lighting in Hillcourt.

“In recent times I received much contact from the residents in Hillcourt regarding the poor standard of public lighting in the estate. A number of the lights had not been working for some considerable length of time.

“While at first you might think the problem was just blown bulbs, it transpired that the lighting heads and connections in some cases were simply beyond repair.

“I worked in conjunction with the Public Lighting section of Westmeath County Council to find a solution and rather than have a piecemeal fix carried out to the existing lights, I made a strong case to the local authority for all of the lights in Hillcourt to be replaced with new low energy lighting heads.

“I was very pleased that the Council have agreed with my proposal and they confirmed to me that this work has now been conducted and the lights installed in Hillcourt. This news will come as welcome relief to the homeowners and residents in the area.

“LED lights produce light up to 90 percent more efficiently than the existing incandescent light bulbs often used in public lighting.

“I am also working on public lighting matters for a number of other residential areas as we transition from the old system to a new, more efficient LED system,” Cllr O’Rourke confirmed.
