Sinn Fein election candidate launches Pride of Place local initiative

Yellow vests are a huge topic in recent weeks, but Athlone Sinn Féin donned a few hi-viz jackets last weekend for a whole other reason.

Local representative and Council aspirant, Padraig Hegarty, launched the Pride of Place initiative in Marine View by getting stuck into a huge clean-up of the area with colleagues Bob Fox and Conor Dowling.

Certain parts of the area had become something of a forgotten wasteland in recent times, making it a litter blackspot, but hopefully, no longer will it be used as a makeshift dumping group.

“This is only the beginning of the town clean up as too many areas are left to fall asunder, and many of these areas could be used for amenities such as playgrounds for the kids in the area. Residents were very supportive of the work done and since the job was done, other resident committees from the area have expressed interest in getting such support for their own areas,” the local election candidate remarked.
