Band of the 2nd Brigade at Athlone Castle

The Band of the 2nd Brigade will perform in the courtyard of Athlone Castle on Sunday, May 13, at 2.30pm.

The Band of the 2nd Brigade has been stationed at Custume Barracks, Athlone, since 1936. The band’s original title was ‘Band of the Western Command’ but changed to ‘Band of the 2nd Brigade’ in 2012.

The Band of the 2nd Brigade regularly performs at military events and state functions. It is regarded as being an integral part of the cultural life of the town and performs at numerous events within the local community, such as at schools, festivals, public recitals and charity events.

Carmel Duffy, manager of Athlone Castle, said: “We are delighted to host this afternoon performance by the Band of the 2nd Brigade at Athlone Castle. The acoustics in the castle courtyard are excellent and visitors can look forward to an excellent repertoire under the talented direction of conductor, Captain Thomas Kelly.”
