New exhibition opens at County Buildings

The Atrium Art Space in County Buildings, Mullingar becomes a hive of artistic activities as Art and Feeling an exhibition by the Springfield Irish Wheelchair Association Art Group is launched by cathaoirleach of Wesmeath County Council, Paddy Hill.

The Springfield Irish Wheelchair Association Art Group is delighted to present Art and Feeling their second collective public exhibition of artwork opening which has just opened in the Atrium Space, County Buildings, Mullingar. The Atrium Space is a unique improvised exhibition space, within the impressive architectural surrounds of the Arás. The artwork being shown is a result of two programmes that have taken place in the Springfield Centre, Mullingar which have allowed participants to develop their creative abilities and skills organically through experiential and reflexive learning.

The first programme has been an engagement of weekly painting classes funded through the Community Education Service provided by Longford & Westmeath Education Training Board and tutored by artist Liz Johnson.

The second programme investigates sensory communication through recycled materials. The artists explored and then selected elements relevant to expressing their feelings and chosen subject matter.

This project has been funded by Westmeath County Council through the Art-in-Community Scheme 2014. Designed and led by artist Non Waters, the artwork is intended to encourage interactive sensory communication with the spectator.

Any artists, sculptors, recent graduates, or community groups interested in enquiring about exhibiting in the Atrium Space should contact Westmeath County Arts Office.
