Over 40 fringe events for 63rd drama festival

The 2015 RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival will see the most extensive fringe festival in Athlone in the 63 years since the national event began.

With the nine nights of the festival plays in the Dean Crowe Theatre completely sold out, the 40 fringe events will provide the public with a wide variety of entertainment, activities, culture, and fun. Tickets for all fringe events will be available at the festival hub from Monday April 27 in the Radisson Blu Hotel between 12-3pm daily. Tickets will also be available at all fringe events and as usual will be subject to availability.

It’s your last chance to catch Athlone Little Theatre’s lastest production - The Cemetery Club - which runs until tomorrow night, Friday April 24.

This is a contemporary play set in New York and centres around the lives of three Jewish widows Ida, Lucille, and Doris, who meet up regularly - after visiting their husbands’ graves - for a coffee and a chat.

Fire parade, music, and visual arts at Uisneach

This May bank holiday weekend will see Ireland’s oldest Bealtaine celebration on the Hill of Uisneach on Saturday, May 2 from 2-11.30pm. The Uisneach Fire Festival’s unique ceremonial fire parade at dusk will be the centrepiece of the day-long celebration which will feature artisan foods and crafts, holistic healing, a heritage talks tent, re-enactments, and guided heritage walks. The main stage area will feature a full music programme including the Máirtín O’Connor Band and Mary Coughlan. A special Clarke’s Bar Tent will also feature a traditional music programme throughout the day.
