Dealing with ‘skeletons in the wardrobe’ at an interview

Some of us have accumulated the odd ‘skeleton in the wardrobe’ over the course of our careers. Most of these ‘skeletons’ are minor in nature and can be easily explained. However, others can damage your chances of getting that job, particularly if not addressed properly, writes Pearse O’Donnell, Career Coach, Sli Nua Careers.

‘Skeletons’ may include not having worked for an extended period; you may have been let go from a previous job; or your academic record is not what it should be. There may be other types of ‘skeletons in your wardrobe’ but the question is how do you address them at an interview or, indeed, do you address them at all?

Minister for the Diaspora and International Development Ciaran Cannon has said that jobseekers in Galway should be aware that their entitlements will not be affected should they avail of opportunities for work over the Christmas period.

Minister Cannon said he is pleased to note that Galway`s unemployment figure has dropped by almost 1,800 since the beginning of this year and that the number of people on the Live Register has declined by 12 per cent on the figure from January.
