Run the VHI Mini Marathon for Galway Rape Crisis

Galway Rape Crisis Centre is one of the registered charities for this year's VHI Mini Marathon.

Founded in 1984, Galway Rape Crisis Centre provides counselling services to survivors of sexual violencee in Galway city, with outreach services in Ballinasloe, Tuam and Gort.

In need of vital funding, the centre is looking for people interested in taking part in the VHI Mini Marathon to run for the centre. Sponsorship cards and T-shirts will be provided, and all money raised and donated to GRCC is channelled back into the centre to provide its core services.

The centre offers professional training and information talks to schools, community groups and organisations, or to groups of professionals on issues in the area of sexual violence and abuse. This specialised education programme aims to dispel common myths that surround sexual violence and give information on different areas, such as the effects of trauma, and how to support someone if they have been a victim of abuse.

The VHI Mini Marathon gives the centre a visible platform on which to show support for its clients and for other survivors who have yet to seek support in the aftermath of sexual violence. It receives approximately 80 per cent of its core funding, and is dependent on financial support from the public through donations and fundraising activities such as the VHI Mini Marathon.

Anyone interested in running for GRCC can contact www.galwayrcc.org, facebook on www.facebook.com/GalwayRCC org, the office email at [email protected], or phone 1800 355355 or 091 564800.
