NTL and ESB should reinstate customer service offices locally says Nolan

With unemployment rising, the ESB and NTL should employ more people in their service departments according to Labour’s Galway City East candidate Nuala Nolan.

According to Ms Nolan, both companies are running at a profit so both can help the economy by reinstating customer service offices in Galway. Both ESB and NTL closed their customer service offices in Galway some time ago.

She said the ability for the public to have issues and problems solved by meeting a customer rep “face to face” should be a part of the overall service.

“A business where the customer needs a long term service should have to provide customer care free to the client unless the client is clearly at fault,” she said. “Not everyone is comfortable talking technical jargon over the phone, especially the elderly.”

She also said the manner in which people have to wait and get through phone queries is also causing problems.

“With the ESB it should be a one stop shop when you ring up,” she said. “At present you have to ring a few different numbers to get through to different departments.”
