One month to go to DruidMurphy

Druid Theatre Company’s next major production and touring event, DruidMurphy – Plays by Tom Murphy, is just one month away, and will premiere in London in May.

DruidMurphy is a celebration of one of Ireland’s foremost living dramatists, Tom Murphy, and the three plays to be staged as part of DruidMurphy, Famine, A Whistle in the Dark, and Conversations on a Homecoming, span the years 1846 to 1970 and tell the story of Irish emigration.

Rehearsals are now in their seventh week. The plays will be directed by Garry Hynes and feature a cast of 17 including leading Irish theatre actors Marie Mullen, Aaron Monaghan, Niall Buggy, and Salthill’s Joseph Ward who plays the role of 10-year-old Donaill in Famine.

DruidMurphy will open with a run in the Town Hall Theatre from May 23 to June 9, after which it will be in London on June 25 as part of the London 2012 Festival. The show will then transfer to New York’s Lincoln Centre Festival.

The show returns to County Galway for performances in Clifden (September 24 – 25 ); the Aran Islands (Inis Mór on September 27 and Inis Meáin on September 28 ); Tom Murphy’s home town Tuam (September 29 ); and at the Town Hall Theatre (July 23 – 28 ) as part of the Galway Arts Festival.

The public can see each of the plays individually over three evenings or experience all three together on the one day. The DruidMurphy cycle day starts at 1.30pm and includes an afternoon interval and an evening dinner break.
